Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:Responsible for the accurate and timely
underwriting of Home Equity product requests Ensures HELOC requests
satisfy guidelines set by Wescom Credit Union, and its business
partners (i.e. insurance providers).Strong, working-knowledge of
automated underwriting systems (AUS) and tools offered through the
Loan Origination System (LOS). Ability to trouble-shoot and be a
resource for HELOC team members. Capable of calculating income from
pay stubs to tax returns. Calculates standard HELOC ratios. Reviews
property appraisal. Works with other underwriters and members of
Management Team, as needed, to ensure that all underwriting and
processing requirements are met within desired parameters.ESSENTIAL
POSITION FUNCTIONS:Underwrite HELOC loan files and assists HELOC
team members with re-submitting loans in the LOS. .Provides
thorough review of appraisal and ensures appraisal satisfies Wescom
s board-approval Appraisal Policy.Responsible for thoroughly
reviewing loans and escalating loans when necessary to HELOC
Management Team when necessary with decision
recommendation.Responsible for daily review and decision making of
all HELOC loans input through the LOS.Assist with system
troubleshooting and maintenance related to underwriting.Assist in
the underwriting training of new employees on the HELOC LOS.
.Assist in training of appropriate personnel on system enhancements
and / or changes.Maintains high level of member service, promotes
advocacy and continually focuses on improvement in member survey
ratings.Acts as a resource for the HELOC department on HELOC
related policies and procedures.Helps to ensure staff efforts are
focused on achieving goals and are aligned with Wescom s strategic
objectives.Supports HELOC marketing efforts and provides support
for credit union products.Ensures HELOC compliance through Loan
Level audits and underwriting loan files.Participates on project
teams at the department / organization level and may serve as
project manager.Contributes to organizational efforts in process
improvement and streamlining efforts.Stays abreast of and develops
proficiency in technological advancements and emerging management
practices.Supports organizational strategy and helps manage the
change process within the department.Ensures that the physical
environment is maintained according to Wescom s standards.Must have
excellent written and verbal communication skills.Apply team and
department Best Practices and continually work for process and
service improvements.Performs other related duties as assigned or
requested.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High school diploma required.
B.A/B.S. degree in related field preferred.2-3 years of basic
mortgage and HELOC underwriting required.OTHER SKILLS AND
ABILITIES:Ability to provide excellent member service throughout
the HELOC loan process.Ability to handle multiple tasks
simultaneously with a high level of accuracy and attention to
detail.Knowledge of Credit Union operations and ability to
integrate and communicate critical information to members, vendors,
and other team members.COMPUTER SKILLS:Proficiency in Mortgage
Cadence, Temenos/Ackelerant, and Symitar, preferred.Proficiency in
Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) is also
desirable.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to add, subtract, multiply
and divide in all units of measure, using while numbers, common
fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios and
percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The

finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or
