Job DescriptionThe Lead Mechanical Engineer is resposible for the engineering and design of natural gas infrastructure projects from planning and design through construction and closeout. The Lead Mechanical Engineer can also act as the Project Manager on small to medium size projects to ensure projects are completed on time, on schedule, and within budget satisfying all of the client's expectation. They work closely and interactively with clients including reporting progress and making forecasts for cost and schedule. The Lead Mechanical Engineer is the liaison between the Drafting Teams and the Project Manager to ensure that deadlines are met, work is being done correctly and in accordance with the client's requirements. They will also be the ones to answer questions and solve problems specific to the design. Essential Duties and Responsibilities -- Provide engineering and design for natural gas transmission pipelines, distribution mains, bridge/highway/waterway crossings, metering & regulating facilities, and large industrial metering. -- Provide engineering and design for natural gas processing, mixing and storage facilities including LNG, CNG, Propane/Air, Cryo Plants, Hydrogen Blending, and RNG. -- Develop pipe and equipment specifications and perform required sizing calculations.-- Prepares or directs the preparation of Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), piping drawings, isometric fabrication drawings, bill of materials, and general arrangement drawings.-- Review engineering plans to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, standards, and industry best practices.-- Design hydrostatic tests for natural gas pipelines and stations to establish the MAOP of the infrastructure.-- Understanding of the "Mega Rule" requirements and experience with compliance methods. -- Support efforts for permitting, license acquisition, and land rights associated with the project.-- Assist in preparing Request for Proposal responses as needed.-- Coach and mentor others on engineering principles. Required Education & Experience -- Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering Discipline.-- Valid Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain one within the first year of employment.-- At least 8 years of professional experience. Experience in oil & gas/utility industry preferred.-- Must be detail-oriented, organized, flexible, and able to effectively multi-task while working in a fast-paced environment.-- Must have excellent time management and prioritization skills to ensure deadlines are met while providing accurate deliverables.-- Must have demonstrated excellent human relations, influencing, communications and listening skills to deal effectively with all levels of clients, employees and management.-- Extensive technical knowledge of industry codes and standards including ASME/ANSI/API/NFPA/CSA codes (ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, 49 CFR 192, 193 & 195), and NFPA 59A.-- Project Management experience on small to medium projects. Required Skills-- Understands and is proficient with required codes and regulations.-- Demonstrated ability to identify problems and work creatively in a team environment to resolve them.-- Ability to respond in a flexible manner and to reprioritize work as the situation demands.-- Has developed excellent communication skills, both written and verbal through experience-- Excellent written, verbal communication and organization skills.-- Excellent organizational skills and time management skills are necessary.-- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.-- Ability to develop and follow schedules.-- Basic understanding of CAD.-- Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including internal resources and clients.-- Ability to read and interpret communication styles of team members and clients who come from both technical and non-technical disciplines.
