Join our family!Job SummaryThe Process Development Engineer at Daylight will support the development of laser modules from initial design through production. Responsibilities include manufacturing analysis, fixture development, and integration of robotic tooling. Candidates should have a strong understanding of equipment, documentation, testing optical/laser products, systems, and subsystems. They will work with a multidisciplinary team on prototyping, calculations, FMEA, builds, testing, capacity planning, and process development. The role involves compiling and reviewing data, performing optical and mechanical analyses, developing maintenance plans for laser manufacturing equipment, and implementing and documenting changes. The ideal candidate is an agile self-starter capable of working independently and receptive to team feedback.Job Responsibilities

  • Develop systematic processes for various laser packaging technologies (soldering, wire bonding, lid welding, adhesive bonding, hermeticity testing).
  • Validate design intent and optimize manufacturability.
  • Support initial engineering prototype and production laser builds hands-on.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure manufacturability of new products.
  • Troubleshoot engineering issues with root cause analysis.
  • Use SolidWorks and other design/analysis software.
  • Perform statistical processing to establish control limits and monitor processes.
  • Document manufacturing processes to support new products and lifecycle changes (Work Instructions, ECOs, TDNs).
  • Create and conduct validation test plans to qualify process changes.
  • Implement process improvements using lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Integrate information technologies with shop floor processes.
  • Support 5S, housekeeping, and cleanliness standards throughout manufacturing.
  • Set up data collection, analysis, and feedback to improve process performance.
  • Design and implement process and production control methods, including key process variable analysis (JMP, Minitab), KPP Capability Analysis, Cpk.
  • Construct and execute controlled experiments (DOE, Gage R&R) to address yield, quality, and equipment issues.
  • Purchase, fabricate, build, and test prototypes to mitigate key development risks.
  • Interface with suppliers to evaluate and select new production equipment.
  • Assist manufacturing team with the design and implementation of production lines, work cells, fixtures, and equipment.The Ideal Candidate will have:
    • Ability to work independently and in a team, providing regular progress reports.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Good organizational skills to balance lab work, meetings, and design tasks.
    • Clear communication skills (written and oral) with personnel and customers, documenting analysis, test results, and reviews.
    • Support and uphold the organization's mission, values, and culture.Qualifications
      • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering field with 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in opto-mechanical, laser packaging, or manufacturing engineering.
      • Strong technical expertise and domain knowledge.The pay scale for this position is $101,237/year - $157,169/year.
