Summary The Ranger (Temporary) plays a key role in ensuring a safe,
welcoming, and engaging environment for all Garden guests,
volunteers, and staff. Rangers serve as visible ambassadors of the
Garden while supporting safety, security, and daily operations
across the property. This position is ideal for individuals who
enjoy working outdoors, interacting with the public, and responding
to dynamic situations in a calm and professional manner. Key
Responsibilities (Essential Functions) Provide a safe, secure, and
welcoming environment for guests, staff, and volunteers Greet and
assist guests, offering directions, information, and support Patrol
Garden grounds, parking areas, and service locations to ensure
safety and compliance Respond to incidents, emergencies, and guest
needs, ensuring appropriate documentation and communication
Coordinate response efforts during emergencies and follow
established protocols Monitor events, programs, and activities to
ensure safety and protection of Garden assets Identify and report
potential safety hazards or liability concerns Assist with traffic
and parking flow during high visitation periods Escort vendors,
school groups, and visitors as needed Handle injured or deceased
wildlife in accordance with safety protocols and training Operate
Garden-owned vehicles safely and responsibly Complete incident
reports and support opening and closing procedures Maintain a
professional, proactive, and solution-oriented approach in all
interactions Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Valid
California driver’s license and ability to safely operate Garden
vehicles, with or without reasonable accommodation CPR/First Aid
certification or willingness to obtain upon hire Ability to work
evenings, weekends, and holidays as required Knowledge, Skills &
Abilities Strong customer service mindset with a focus on guest
experience Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in
emergency situations Effective communication and interpersonal
skills Ability to work independently while following established
procedures Strong observational skills and attention to detail
Comfort working outdoors in a public-facing role Physical & Work
Environment Ability to stand, walk, and work outdoors for extended
periods Ability to lift up to 30 pounds Ability to work in varying
weather conditions Ability to maintain alertness, including while

this position. Schedule & Assignment Details This is a temporary,
part-time, non-exempt position expected to run from April through
August 2026 , supporting peak visitation, programs, and events.
Availability required Thursdays through Sundays , including
evenings and holidays Schedules may vary based on operational needs
Compensation $20.00 per hour Final compensation may vary based on
experience, skills, and internal equity. Additional Information
Employment may be contingent upon successful completion of a
background check and/or motor vehicle record review, if applicable.
