The Specialist, Software Quality Engineer reporting directly to the Manager Quality Administration is responsible for implementing and maintaining quality standards, methods, instructions, and planning on assigned programs with minimal supervision and direction. Represents the Quality department in software MRB activities, performs software quality audits, controls scheduling of ISO 9001 internal audits/process audits, software failure analysis, maintains software quality library/files, coordinates with project engineering and implements corrective actions. Performs other software quality functions as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Reviews customer and/or contract software requirements.
  • Communicates software quality requirements with cognizant departments.
  • Reviews and approve software documents and drawings.
  • Participates in the review of software product discrepancies, MRB investigations, and coordinate with software engineering to solve problems.
  • Performs internal and process software audits.
  • Controls scheduling of ISO 9001 internal audits/process audits.
  • Participates in software development reviews and verifications.
  • Write/Revise Software Quality Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Performs software audits at sub-contractors, when required.
  • Reviews customer complaints to submitted documents and follow-up to ensure resolutions and conclusions.
  • Identify, analyze, and document defects, questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in software program functions, outputs, online screens, and content.
  • Contributes to establishment of standards and procedures for program design and testing.
  • Recommends program improvements, or revisions to programmers and system analysts.
  • Reviews computer logs and reports to identify program processing errors and possible improvements.
  • Represent Quality Assurance as a member of the Configuration Control Board (CCB)
  • Contribute to establishment of standards and procedures for program design and product testing.
  • Maintain software quality library/files.
  • Trains and support users.
  • Cross-trains Software Quality Technicians and/or Software Quality Engineers.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned by Management (e.g., QMS sustaining actions as assigned, TIPQA module Implementation & training, assist in Shipping Inspection, Corrective Action, and Internal and Customer Audits).
  • Must be logical and have the ability to communicate well both written and verbally.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a gov't issued DOD secret level security clearance. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/ Associates Degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
  • Must have minimum 4 years' experience with a general knowledge of government contracts as it pertains to software requirements.
  • 3+years experience working with software configuration management.
  • Must have minimum 3 years' experience in ISO, or Mil-Spec Environment.
  • Must have sound knowledge of software development principles.
  • Knowledge and experience with ISO9001 and QMS requirements. LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondences and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
