Job Description:

This position is responsible for the planning and technical execution of the entire system development lifecycle of power conversion and distribution products. Overall responsibilities include leading and executing system engineering efforts from requirement definition, architecting, design execution, and the support of integration and verification.

Candidate will be sought after as an internal expert and thought leader with broad experience across multiple job areas. The position will work under consultative direction against annual goals to manage large, complex project initiatives of strategic importance to the organization. The position will communicate within and outside of the organization to influence leadership to accept new practices, approaches, and concepts. The position will develop or champion new systems, concepts such as Model Based Systems Engineering, or technologies, as well as recommend tactics and strategies that directly impact the achievement of overall business or functional results.

The position operates as both an individual contributor and as a team leader. The position will lead other systems engineers and design engineers during the capture phase, the requirements definition phase, design phase, as well as full lifecycle on new product introductions. This position works with other engineering disciplines to apply system engineering methodologies and tools (e.g., functional analysis, context diagrams, trade studies, requirements definition/allocation, modeling) to define system architecture and design. Additionally, this position develops and maintains, with other engineering disciplines, technical risk and technical performance measures throughout the course of the project. During the integration and verification phases, the position will support procedure development and lead or participate in structured and/or ad-hoc problem solving activities associated with test findings. In addition to strategic and tactical execution, this position is key to identifying, championing, and driving continuous improvement activities within the System Engineering knowledge domain. This includes, but is not limited to procedure/work instruction development, template development, tool enhancements, training, and mentoring. Finally, this position will assist in the strategic development of system concepts and capabilities to augment the business portfolio and product pipeline.

Manage and Maintain Portfolio Systems to meet: Operational Effectiveness: Performance (Functions, Requirements, and Priorities), Availability (Reliability, Maintainability, and Supportability), and Process Efficiency (Operation, Maintenance, and Logistics)

Lead Tiger Teams to drive solutions

Mission Oriented Solutions:

Act as an agent of the client to architect mission solutions working jointly with Portfolio Business Development, Program Management, and Functional Engineering to balance Performance, Cost, Schedule and Risk. Additionally, be able to help decipher perception from fact in development of Mission Solutions.

Lead Technical Aspects of Proposal Efforts:

Utilize a mix of Analysis, Modeling, and Heuristics early in the lifecycle process to:

Identify Stakeholders and their associated views

Identify Function Design Drivers

Identify Performance Design Drivers

Identify constraints

Identify Critical Success Factors

Identify and refine technical risks and assessments of the risks

Manage technical risks through proposal efforts

Identify and evaluate re-use opportunity

Generate and Refine Operational Threads (CONOPS)

Define Technical Performance Measures (TPM) (Inclusive of Key Performance Parameter (KPP) and Measure of Effectiveness (MOE))

Develop and manage trade studies and analysis of alternatives

Identify and Define opportunity for COTS integration

Predict System Performance

Estimate Cost/Schedule Impacts to Implementation

Support/evaluate to customer affordability goals

Define Model Utilization:

Define Model Based System Engineering Objectives

Develop KPP's and MOE's

Innovate and Influence new systems and/or approaches to complex problem spaces affecting overall business of functional results

Communication Responsibilities:

Clear and concise communication of complex technical information across the matrix of the organization

Influence across the matrix (Leadership to Individual Contributor)

Build and maintain professional relationships

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical discipline (BSEE preferred) and a minimum of 12 years of prior related experience in engineering and management of complex technical systems development and production. Or, Graduate degree or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

Broad based technical knowledge and experience in order to understand and evaluate systems engineering activities across the engineering functions. Preferred emphasis in power engineering or power control systems.

Possess a strong understanding of the system “vee”. A general understanding of the overall system engineering process, as outlined by INCOSE, is required.

Extensive experience in concept and architecture development including trade studies and requirements development and decomposition.

Extensive experience with requirement management tools; experience with MBSE tools desired.

Strong background in structured problem solving approaches/methodologies.

Experience with statistical analysis methods/approaches and tools (e.g., DOE, Minitab).

Outstanding written communication skills.

Strong verbal communication skills for internal and customer presentations.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Additional Skills:

Medium voltage equipment design.

Specific experience in electronic power conversion equipment design and deployment.

Experience in designing power conversion equipment and working in a high power environment.
